Suggested Activities
Plan a family walk or hike.  Go to google maps and search for your house by typing in your address. Choose satellite view to see your house and the surrounding area. Draw out a map of where you will go.
Plan a family brunch.  Look up a recipe for your favourite brunch item and follow the instructions to make it.  Pancakes is one yummy suggestion.

Click here to listen to this read aloud.  Viola Desmond was an African Canadian who stood up to racial segregation in the 1940's.  As you are listening, try to make a connection between the Black Lives Matter Movement that is happening today with the story of Viola Desmond.

The Ickabog is a new book being published by J.K. Rowling.  You can read it online for free here.  Check out the website and if you like drawing, consider asking your parents if you can enter the illustration competition.  I encourage you to send me a photo at lross@sd44.ca if you do complete any illustrations.  Happy reading and drawing!

Everybody Needs a Rock
At Braemar, we love Adrienne Gear and her reading and writing lesson ideas.  Attached is a powerful online learning lesson based on the book Everybody Needs a Rock.  Primary students could do this with parents.  Intermediate students could read the lesson and follow it independently.  In summary, what you will need to do is listen to a story online, find a perfect rock, draw and write about your rock and for an extra challenge, paint a rock with a positive message or image.  Click here for the instructions.  I would love to see your finished products.  Send photos to lross@sd44.ca.  Have fun!

Earth Day - April 20. 2020
Outdoor Place-Based Learning - Cheakamus Centre staff are supporting educators and parents remotely by providing outdoor place-based learning activities for all elementary learners. See their new resource page HERE.  This site is amazing!
• Familyeducation has a list of story books for Earth Day.  You can key the titles into Youtube to find readings of the books.  At the bottom of the page there is a "what's hot" section with a selection of activities you may want to try.
• Nature Scavenger Hunt - be safe, respect social distancing and enjoy the outdoors with your family.  Click here for the template.
• Found Object Colour Wheel - Mrs. Pedersen has shared a fun lesson for creating a colour wheel from things found in nature or items that you already have around the house.  Click on this link for the lesson plan.
• If you would like to share any of your work or creations, email Mrs. Ross at lross@sd44.ca.

Challenge - for students and parents
