 We Love Books!

Mrs. Posehn

Two of my favorite books are inspired by my children.
The Rainbow Fish was a book that we read over and over and over again. A family favorite.
It's Not Easy Being Green reminds me of all the great life lessons that the muppet characters portray. Applicable for children and adults alike.

I have so many favourite books, and reading to my students was my very favourite part of being a classroom teacher!  As the school counsellor, I do not get to read to students very often, but I always jump at any invitation to come in to classrooms to read aloud!
For picture books it is so hard to choose, but among my very favourites are: Wild About Books, The Way I Feel, Bear Snores On, and Where There's a Bear There's Trouble, .

For chapter books, my favourites to read aloud to students are: Starshine, The Small Adventure of Popeye and Elvis, Edgar Allan's Crime Investigation Notebook, Silverwing, The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, The White Giraffe, and Poppy!

Whew!  It is completely impossible to narrow it down to one favourite!

I know Anne of Green Gables has been a classic for many years, but I only read it recently!  Last year, my parents went on a vacation to Prince Edward Island where this book is set and my mom bought this book for me.  I finally had time to read it now.  It's a story of an orphan girl, who was mistakenly sent to two elderly siblings, who originally wanted to adopt a boy to help on their farm.  Spoiler alert: they decide to keep her!  Her joyful and imaginative ways transform their family.  I also loved reading about all the silly adventures the quick-tempered Anne got into and her intense rivalry with her classmate, Gilbert.   However, I just wanted to mention that I didn't care very much for how this book started.  The first page was filled with flowery language and was too slow-moving for me.  But I'm glad that I stuck with the novel because it's one of my favourites now.

Here are two memorable quotes that give me joy (especially during this virus time!) : "Dear old world," she murmured, "you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you."   AND  "God's in his heaven, all's right with the world," whispered Anne softly.

The Cricket in Times Square  By George SeldenDrawings by Garth Williams
This story is one of my favourites, probably because I have fond memories of reading the story with my children years ago. The Cricket in Times Squareis set in New York City. It is about a friendship between a cricket named Chester, a boy named Mario, a mouse named Tucker, and Harry the cat. The story begins as Chester arrives in New York by way of a picnic basket! As the story unfolds, Chester’s friends learn about his special talent...This book has won a Newbery Award and is a wonderful read.

I am sending my book of the moment that I am reading, as favorites are MANY at this stage of life! This little gem was a gift many years ago, and whenever I read it, a place of simplicity and comfort appears in a very innocent and humorous way. So many of us have a close affinity to the characters of Winnie the Pooh, especially now when many of us are living in close proximity to loved ones - do you have a Hare or Tigger, or maybe Owl in your setting - which do you identify with?

Petit Point by Giancarlo Macri and Carolina Zanotti.
I love this book because it is so simple and fun but has a very powerful message about acceptance and working together.

I love these books because they stoke my imagination and guide me towards wonderful new ways of understanding our world. For the series by Dominique Demers, I recommend starting with « La Nouvelle Maîtresse ». Ps, I have a plant named Gertrude and our daily conversations are quite lively! - Mme Ho

I really like If I Built a Car and If I Built a House.  They have great illustrations.

I love Edward the Emu and Edwina.
I like these books because they are funny and they rhyme.  These books have a great message. Emus are just one of Australia's many fascinating animals.

I really love Chris Hadfield's story book.  I love the pictures in the book. Chris Hadfield is a Canadian who has done a great job sharing his experiences of space travel with the world. I like the way Chris talks about his own childhood and I think many children can relate to him..   They have great illustrations.

I love Mo Willems' series of Elephant and Piggie books. They make me laugh and smile. When I think of Elephant and Piggie I think about friendship and fun! Their adventures make me laugh out loud!
I really wish I had a stuffy of Elephant and Piggie!
